Google Jules V2 Shifts to Goal-Driven Coding

Google is building Jules V2, internally codenamed Jitro, as a goal-oriented coding agent that moves well beyond the prompt-and-execute pattern of its predecessor. Instead of developers writing specific instructions, the agent takes high-level objectives and autonomously identifies what to change across a codebase - tracking goals, generating tasks, and managing its own workspace. MCP remote server integrations and persistent collaboration are part of the tooling. A waitlist launch is expected around Google I/O on May 19. The shift from task execution to goal pursuit puts Jules V2 in a different category than GitHub Copilot or Cursor, though the trust gap around autonomous code changes remains the obvious barrier for enterprise adoption.
