Vercel Builds Its Platform Around Coding Agents
Vercel reported that over 30 percent of its deployments now come from coding agents, up 1,000 percent in six months, with Claude Code driving 75 percent of agent-initiated deploys. The platform is restructuring around this shift with three layers: deployment surfaces for agents via CLI, REST API, and MCP servers; an agent development stack including AI SDK v6, AI Gateway for multi-model routing, and sandboxed execution; and autonomous infrastructure that investigates anomalies and proposes fixes. Agent-deployed projects call AI inference providers 20 times more often than human-deployed ones, which reshapes the economics of hosting entirely. Vercel is making the same bet as Netlify and Cloudflare - that the next wave of platform growth comes from serving agents, not developers directly.
