NVIDIA Partners With Uber and Lyft on Robotaxis

NVIDIA expanded its autonomous vehicle push by partnering with Uber and Lyft, providing the DRIVE Hyperion platform and new Alpamayo AI models as the technical backbone for upcoming robotaxi fleets. Uber plans Level 4 robotaxis in LA and San Francisco by 2027, scaling to 28 cities globally by 2028, while Amazon's Zoox - an NVIDIA customer since 2017 - will deploy through Uber's network. The strategy is a direct counter to Tesla's vertically integrated approach: NVIDIA sells the platform and lets others handle the fleet operations, mapping, and ride-hailing. Uber and Lyft stock moved up on the news; Tesla stayed flat. Waymo remains the operational leader in US robotaxi service, but NVIDIA is betting that being the compute layer underneath multiple competitors is a better position than building the cars themselves.
