Ramp Data Shows Anthropic Overtaking OpenAI in Sales
Ramp's AI Index for February 2026 shows Anthropic winning 70% of head-to-head matchups against OpenAI among first-time AI buyers - a reversal from 2025 when OpenAI dominated new business acquisition. Anthropic adoption hit 24.4% of businesses on Ramp's platform, up 4.9% month over month, while OpenAI posted its largest single-month decline since tracking began. A year ago Anthropic was in 1 out of 25 businesses; now it's 1 in 4. The data gets interesting when you consider that OpenAI's Codex is price-competitive and benchmarks favorably against Claude Code - Ramp's analysis points to cultural positioning around AI ethics, especially after OpenAI's DoD partnership, as a factor beyond pure product comparison. Overall business AI adoption reached a record 47.6%, meaning nearly half of companies on Ramp now pay for at least one AI tool.
